Panel Sizing

At Watson’s, we are consistently improving our panel sizing production process. Our latest investment for improving panel sizing production is our brand-new HOMAG SAWTEQ B-300 FlexTec pressure beam saw. This is the UK’s first fully automated cutting cell which is remarkable for Watson’s because of its integrated robot. This is part of our effort to continuously improve efficiency and production.

For Watson’s our panel sizing machinery allows cutting in batch size 1 production effortless whilst being highly flexible. It means no more manual panel handling which reduces damages to panels and increases stacking consistency. It does this through the robot moving the panels using vacuum technology. On top of this, the capacity is up to 1,500 parts per shift so production is much faster.

Our cutting optimization transforms slow panel cutting into a more efficient process that saves time and reduces waste. To enhance the benefits we have invested in a fully automated board retrieval system that helps reduce floor space and increases cutting availability.

Edge Banding

With two of the latest Homag Ambitions, our edgebanders can achieve feed rates of 20 m/ min. We can also provide the latest in bonding technology using PU adhesive on our straight line edge banding machine to reduce the glue line. Edge tapes range from 0.4 mm to 2 mm and material thickness from 8 mm to 60 mm. If you require shaped panels edged, we have two dedicated Homag BAZ C.N.C machining centers. Material thickness from 8 mm to 50 mm, edged using E.V.A hot melt.

Here at Watson’s the highly trained machinists that operate the edgebanders always seek the highest possible quality through seamless finishes and minimal glue line. We also pick out the best tapes to ensure the match between the board and edge is perfect.

CNC - Shape & Drill

Our C.N.C. capabilities range includes the Homag BMG 512 doubling our capabilities regarding shaped panel work. This machine allows shaping and curved edging to be incredibly efficient and fast due to its split bed capability. We also boast our drilling capabilities with 2 of the Weeke C.N.C drill machines. All of these machines enable to delivery of high-quality products which can be repeated to suit the customer’s needs.

Watson’s latest C.N.C. machine is a Homag Venture 115M. This is a 3-, 4- and 5-axis machine that has access from both sides due to new bumper safety technology. This means that an even wider variety of products can be created such as multiple varieties in joints that are accurate and consistent.

We have invested in the latest technology,  linking all processes of the business from order input, design, programming of machines, assembly, and dispatch. We run a fully bar-coded system that starts with materials coming through the door from suppliers and finishes when wrapping and strapping are completed.

Our new MES system gives us a clear picture of our production capacity and the current status of all our customer orders. As an effort to be as ahead of technology as possible we have employees that are trained in Industry 4.0.

Assembly

With over 20,000 sq. ft. of assembly area with a team of dedicated and skilled assembly operators. Our aim is to supply a high-quality build to our customer’s specifications. At Watson’s, we offer the customer the choice of whether they want the products flat packed, partly assembled, or fully assembled.

All products are then wrapped and strapped to a high standard to ensure that they all make it to the customer undamaged.
